SPECIALIST REPAIRS FOR AUTOMATIC AND MANUAL GEARBOXES

Mini Cooper Cuts Manuals

There is no easy way to dress this up.

Sadly, the manual Mini Copper will soon be no more.

Although there was a fleeting chance that minis were going to re-embrace the manual, perhaps the inevitable has happened, despite manuals being part of the joy of driving this iconic vehicle.

The news came through Mini brand CEO Stefanie Wurst at a car show in Munich. Neither the gas or electric version of the Mini will have a manual, the electric relevant as some makes are looking at simulated gear changes on manual electrics.

The change is likely to fully kick in for late 2024 or early 2025, the exact date remains to be confirmed.

The announcement follows on from BMW’s announcement of the M series will only be automatic.

One question to ponder is whether the impact will be greater than the sales of Mini Coopers would suggest. The Mini is a British institution and in the top 10 cars in the UK for new car sales. In terms of popularity it would be higher still, it is loved.

Of all the cars to switch to automatic, maybe this is the most dramatic as it is a car with few like-for-like replacements. With a Mini, you are buying history and a unique style in a way that is not the case for many cars, certainly not many cars that are also in the list of top 10 best sellers.
