The 5 Most Powerful Cars With Manual Gearboxes

What are the five most powerful cars with manual gearboxes?

OK, it might not be a question likely to crop up in a pub quiz any time soon, but it is pretty interesting nonetheless.

Fortunately, the uk.motor1.com website put the hard work in recently in comprising the run-through of the top five.

These are all commercially available cars, cars you could park on your own drive (assuming you have deep pockets…)

Porsche 911 S/T – 518 bhp

Featuring a 4-litre engine, this is one of the latest iterations of the Porsche 911, a wonderful coupe celebrating its 60th birthday.

Just under 2,000 of this version have rolled off the production line. Those who get one will be truly blessed. There is 518bhp delivering a top speed of 186mph ( a neat 300 km/h) and it will get you up to 60 MPH well inside four seconds.

For those wanting to be pushed back into the luxury seats a little less firmly on accelerating, there is a powered-down version. This one has just the 503bhp…

BMW M3 Saloon – 473 bhp

Germany dominates this list of the highest-powered cars with manual transmissions to be found on European roads.

Tje BMW M3 clocks in at 473bhp, though in the UK this is higher still at 503 as only the M Steptronik gearbox edition is sold. Either way, it is still in second place!

Acceleration gets the driver to 60mph in 4.2 seconds and a top speed of 180mph. The power is delivered via a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six-cylinder engine.

BMW M4 Coupe – 473 bhp

A bit of a cheat? This one is clearly essentially the same car but in coupe format. This coupe has rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission.

As with the saloon, the UK ‘only’ has the beefed-up 503bhp version.

Top speed is 150moph or a punchy 180 with the M Driver package.

Ford Mustang – 454 bhp

The much-loved Mustang is a rear-wheel drive American sports car with both manual and auto options – a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic.

Whether opting for the 454bhp Mach 1 or 444bhp Mustang GT, both are beasts.

The V8 Mustangs all reach 60MPH in under five seconds, the GT reaching a top speed of 155MPH and the Mach 1 166 MPH.

Lotus Emira – 400 bhp

A British entry rounds out this top five. A dual-clutch automatic exists, but doesn’t this 3.5 litre V6, six-speed manual sound more fun?

The top speed is 180MPH and 60MPH is reached in 4.3 seconds – or 4.2 for the automatic.
