QUICK AND ACCURATE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM DIAGNOSTICS

Diagnosing transmission problems was once a time consuming, potentially costly, and rather inexact science. Fortunately, that’s all changed thanks to incredibly sophisticated on-board computer systems and in-shop diagnostic tools.

Nowadays, customers bring their cars into N W Transmissions because they know they need a transmission service, because they suspect that a need for transmission repair, or just because they want a “peace of mind” check-up before a long trip. Our trained mechanics hook it up to a scanner, and within seconds, they take note of any diagnostic trouble codes, and use that data to start investigating the problem.

For example, code P0732 refers to an “incorrect gear two ratio.” In simple terms, this means that the computer connected with the car’s memory systems and noticed that the transmission didn’t shift into second gear when it was supposed to. Based on this information, our mechanics would take the car out for a test drive and carefully monitor all of the input speed sensors, output speed sensors, and the computer’s sensors as well to ensure that all of the data is functioning properly. This is very important, because it’s essential for our mechanics to determine if the problem with the transmission is, in fact, the transmission itself, or a miscommunication between the car’s computer and the transmission.

Based on the results of the test drive and an evaluation of the computer’s performance, our mechanics would then target the source of the problem through additional diagnostics, pinpoint the problem, and provide the car’s owner with an update and proposed solutions.

TRANSMISSION PROBLEMS ARE COMPLICATED AND THERE IS OFTEN NO SINGLE ANSWER!

The key thing to remember is that an automatic transmission is a very complicated and sophisticated piece of equipment – especially newer ones. There is no “one-size-fits-all” solution to transmission problems, and any transmission shops that suggest otherwise aren’t only taking advantage of their customer’s money; they’re also compromising their customer’s safety.

PUTTING OUR CUSTOMERS FIRST – ALWAYS!

At N W Transmissions, we put our customers’ safety first, and we have earned a reputation for honesty, integrity, and value. That’s why our mechanics are highly trained in using on-board computer systems and in-shop diagnostic tools. Our customers trust us to provide them with accurate information, to keep their transmission cost and car repair costs as low as possible, and to get them back out on the road safely and quickly.

That’s what we’ve been doing since 1974 – and it’s what we’ll do for the next 40 years…and beyond!
