Is This Bonkers RR The Future Of Luxury Travel?

This concept looks like it’s straight out of the latest futuristic Hollywood blockbuster, but it could be a lot more likely than people think.

A large proportion of Rolls Royce drivers already have a chauffeur, so would life be that much different if the car became the chauffeur? The only real barrier to cars like this becoming a reality is autonomous tech that works well enough to make them viable. With the current rate of progress, we think this is closer than many people think.

As well as being autonomous, the futuristic Rolls is also electric. It’s no big surprise this appeals to the luxury car maker. They’ve always strived to create the smoothest ride possible, and using electric motors eliminates engine noise and vibration completely.

Rolls Royce also have a pretty distinct idea about what the future of luxury design holds. They believe advancements in 3D printing will allow for much wider customisation of vehicles, even down to body panels.

Rolls Royce might think is a good idea, but in our experience it’s better to let the designer handle this part, can you imagine what eyesores are going to pop up at football grounds the world over.

Being fully autonomous means there’s no need for a steering wheel. Rather than use this space to create extra seating, Rolls Royce have instead made it very spacious for the rear passengers. They’ve installed an OLED screen in front of the rear seats. It also means the rear passengers have a clear line of sight out of the windscreen.

Rolls Royce have created their own autonomous assistant, called Eleanor. She knows all of your details, so can suggest routes depending on your diary. She can also book a table at a restaurant, and will have all the contact information of your friends, to make communicating with her even easier. She sounds sort of like Siri, but in a car.

Even the brief given to the designers had no limitations. The board simply asked them to create something visionary. We think they succeeded.

If this is anything near the future of luxury motoring, then it looks pretty special, at least for the minuscule percentage of people that could actually afford one. For the rest of us, we’ll just have to be content with waiting for the first ‘Autonomous fail’ YouTube videos to hit our screens.
